1 paragraph blog post (4-5 sentences/more if you really, really want): What is your favorite dystopian book? Why is it your favorite? If you haven't read a dystopian book, tell me what your favorite genre (type of book) is and why.

  1. My favorite dystopian novel is either the Maze Runner Series and the Hunger Games Trilogy. I really like The Maze Runner Series because it is placed in a really futuristic setting and I like how the author made the Flare because something like that wouldn’t really happen, so it just seemed really interesting. I like the Hunger Games because of the games every year. The games really make the story super interesting and when Peeta is in the Capitol and Katniss is trying to get to them, the author had a brilliant way to tell it with unique words. I think my favorite book in the Hunger Games Trilogy is Mocking jay, and I don’t have a favorite book in the Maze Runner series. There all too good.

    1. Yay! I love Mockingjay too, but really find a student who agrees with me. I love the politics and deception in it.

  2. My favorite dystopian book(series) is the Hunger Games trilogy. I really enjoyed reading these books because they all had the element of suspense and secret, keeping things from the reader making them want to read more. I also really liked the plot of the story, how there was a national death game every year and how two people defied the system, it's very different. My favorite book out of the series is Catching Fire. I loved this book because there was so much action and detail. I also feel as if you learn a lot more of each character and the society in this book. I would recommend this series to any mature reader.

  3. By far my favorite dystopian book is Divergent. Not the trilogy, just Divergent. I am literally obsessed. Why I'm so obsessed is because it's not like other dystopian books ex: The Hunger Games, The Maze Runner, Fire and Flood.
In Divergent The goal is not to kill or be killed. There are no sick games or challenges. The people get some choice in choosing which faction they want to be a part of. The drama is unexpected, no one knew that there would be an Erudite outbreak. Or that the Dauntless would be mind-controlled. When in The Hunger Games you know that people are going to die and or suffer.
The people's lives are based on THEIR DECISIONS and supposed to be simple and enjoyable. No one was suspected to die/suffer in Divergent. I love the element of surprise and all the other descriptive aspects of the Dauntless camp. This is why Divergent is my absolute favorite dystopian book.

    2. I read Divergent but I didn't enjoy it as much as i thought I would have. I liked it and I plan on finishing the series in the future, but for now I feel like not reading anymore dystopian books.

    3. Awesome! And Talla, I'm sorry to hear that. Don't feel like you have to finish the series if you don't really enjoy--there's too much choice out there to read what you don't like.

  4. I don't really read any dystopian novels because I don't enjoy that genre of book. I don't enjoy the fact that it's set in the future and everything is controlled. I read Divergent but it was to confusing and I just didn't enjoy the genre. I mostly enjoy realistic fiction because I can relate to the book more. I understand what the book is saying and can imagine the scenario happening. Realistic fiction books are just more entertaining to me.

  5. My favorite dystopian book has to be The Hunger Games. I enjoyed the trilogy, but my favorite book in it has to be the first one. I like the way the author set up everything, and the details she used. I usually always like the first book of any series because it is the original book. The author usually puts there best work into the first book, so even if they are thinking about a series the reader would want to read more books from them. I like the action in the book and the way the games are set up. I normally don't read that many dystopian books, but this one I was drawn too and it is one of my favorite books.

  6. My favorite dystopian book is Divergent. Divergent is a dystopian book about a future Chicago. There are five factions that everyone gets sorted into: Abnegation, Candor, Erudite, and Dauntless. Tirs is about to get sorted into a faction, but she feels like she does not belong to any faction. Tris turns out to be Abnegation, Erudite, and Dauntless.
Then she must face the decision, which faction will she choose? I really like this book because it is so interesting and the author, Veronica Roth, writes in such detail and precision. And, she makes each part of the book interesting in her own way.

  7. I have read many dystopian novels, and my favorite novel is the Maze Runner. The setting takes place in the future, and it is unique because the whole story occurs in a maze. Everyone in the maze has to find way out by getting past horrifying monsters and traps. The author has added mystery in the book by making the people in the maze not remember anything before they came to the maze or how they ended up there. The author writes in a way that makes the readers want to find out what will happen throughout the book. The violence and action in the book also make me eager to see who is going to win the war against the monsters, or if the people are ever going to escape the maze. I would highly recommend this book to people who love violence, action, and mystery.

    1. Are you obsessed yet? Every single one of your blog post is about Maze Runner! Not that this is bad, I've read it too (A little bit). This reminds me a bit of my book, the main character is left in the dark and can't turn on the lights. I really like how you worded the whole book in just 5 sentences! I think after I finish my book I'm going to try Maze Runner.

  8. My favorite dystopian series would have to be the Maze Runner series. I chose these novels because it is relatively distinct from other dystopian novels. The characters are isolated from society, oppose to actively involved in it. It is also brilliantly detailed and thoughtfully written. The author really goes out of his way to ensure a reading experience that keeps readers on edge. I also enjoyed the plot, it was action packed and full of anticipation. A group of boys (aka Gladers) are trapped in a mysterious maze with no known way out. They must battle the grotesque monsters known as Grievers in order to find an exit out of this maze. They finally do escape, only to find out the Maze was just the beginning.

  9. My favorite dystopian book is the City of Ember, the first book of the series. The story takes place a few years after a major disaster occurs on planet earth, forcing people to live underground. But people soon forget after 250 years that there is a world above them. The story is about two kids who later discover this and try to convince everyone that this is true and to get out of the City of Ember before they perish due to the lack of resources. I love this book because of how intense that it is. Also, it's fun the way that you find out major points throughout the book. The book is filled with mini-mysteries that seem impossible to solve, but then are revealed. Also, the author has a great sense of humor as she narrates the book.Overall, the City of Ember is a real must-read!

  10. My favorite dystopian book is The Hunger Games, the first book in the series. This book was really action packed and was a page turner. Every chapter would be left on a cliff hanger for more enthusiasm. This book is about a girl, Katniss Everdeen. She lives in one of the 12 districts. She gets chosen to go out of a lot of people to contribute and fight to something called the hunger games. Her now friend Peeta, fights with her and struggles to be with her finding love. This is a dystopian love story book that was very interesting. This awesome book was out to be a great book. It is a really page turner for the young minds. I will definitely read this again. This book is a definite must read!

  11. I feel like I've read them all, Hunger Games, City of Ember, Maze Runner, I am Number Four, Divergent and so many more. To pick just one I really like is nearly impossible. Out of all of the books I can actually remember reading, I pick "I am Number Four". I really like the setting it shoots you into. I also love the un-knowingness I have when reading the entire series. I know just as much as the main character, John or four. John had a father figure for the first stage of his life and then he's gone. The mogadorians took him and killed him. John has no one to look up to and has so many powers he must learn to control and use to fight. There's still so much I just don't know! I feel like I'm learning something every page, of course not really learning something like a fact, but part of the lore of the Lorien Legacies (the series name). With only 6 books to get all your knowledge about this entirely different planet, you're left in the dark. In order to turn on the lights you must keep flipping the pages non-stop. If you're into the whole dystopian genre, I am Number Four and the rest of the Lorien Legacies series is a must read!

  12. I haven't read many dystopian novels that I love but my favorite genre is mystery. When I read a mystery book I feel like I am the main character and I am solving these mysteries and waiting for the next clue to help me. I enjoy the suspense and excitement that I feel you can only experience when reading a mystery novel. One of my favorite mystery novel is Paper Towns. I love how the author gives you slight clues that don't give away the but still makes you think about the book all the time. When you finish a mystery novel you are left with so many mixed emotions and all you want to do is talk about the book with other people. That's Why I prefer to read mystery novels over dystopian novels.

  13. I have read a dystopian book, but I have only completed one dystopian book. I feel that if I said that was my favorite, it would be bias. So I am going to tell you what my favorite genre is. My favorite genre is Non-Fiction, because I want knowledge that can help me in the future. Also filling your brain up with smart stuff, that will make you smarter. One example of this would be the Popular Science magazines. Did you know that people are making more hydroponics to feed people in urban areas?

  14. My favorite dystopian book is The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. This is my favorite book because it has a strong female main character that isn't afraid to fight in what she believes in. Katniss (the main character) volunteers for her sister, Prim, when she is reaped to take part in a game-show in which the Capitol broadcasts 24 citizens' deaths. I can relate to the main character because she is more of an introvert and very stubborn, she also doesn't like it when things don't go her way. I will try and be more like Katniss and be less selfish and more outgoing.
